- Ahmet- I actually know a guy named Ahmed, and he's kind of... I don't know, he just rubs me the wrong way. So I can't say I'm too fond of the name
- Azaiah- It sounds like Izaya which obviously reminds me of Orihara Izaya. Automatic pass
- Balthazar- Someone likes Shakespeare.
- Barnabas- You are just asking for your child to be nicknamed Barnacles.
- Bay- Has a serene connotation. I like it.
- Birch- Reminds me of the professor. I don't really hate it, but it's not particularly great.
- Calix- I'm pretty sure there's a part of a flower that sounds pretty similar.
- Clancy- sorry, but that's kind of girly. Maybe not girly per say, but rather... dainty?
- Cotton- I'd name my daughter that. Clancy was iffy, but this one is full on spring and sunshine.
- Godfrey- When I was in kindergarten, our teacher read a book with a gofer named Godfrey in it. I don't even remember what it was about, but Godfrey will ALWAYS be a gofer to me.
- Griffith- Not a bad name. Sometimes I get a hairy connotation, but it's usually just the good old heroic griffin.
- Grover- Satyr. Or lives in a garbage can. I know it's actually Oscar, but I always got them mixed up.
- Hamish- Is that a language?
- Homer- Fat yellow guy who strangles his kid or fat yellow guy that wrote a giant poem. I know the author probably isn't fat or yellow, but I watched the show before learning about the book.
- Hopper- I think it's an adorable name. But it'd be weird if his personality didn't match.
- Humphrey- I don't know. Whales? Humpback whales? Humping? I really don't have that dirty of a mind. I promise.
- Kermit- Frogs. That's all that comes to mind.
- Kit- I REALLY like this name. It's kind of girly, but it reminds me of foxes, which is part of the reason I like it. If you've ever read the Petra Kronos books, then you might know a character named Kit. You guys probably hate him, but he's one of my favorite characters. If you haven't read the books, then you should, and I'm sorry for spoiling part of it!
- Knute- Lute would be okay, but it reminds me of another word. Perhaps I ought to reassess just how dirty my mind is. I have gotten older...
- Ludovic- It has a European ring to it. Though I wouldn't use it myself, I'll acknowledge anybody who does.
- North- Similar connotation to Bay, but a little icier. I know I'm weird, but they both make me think a pale blue. Whereas Bay is a misty / gray blue, North is an icy / white blue. Again, I wouldn't use it, but I'll acknowledge the coolness to anybody who does. Haha. That was entirely unintentional
- Odysseus- A little too heroic for my taste.
- Ogden- reminds me of oden. The dish, not name, if it is one.
- Osborne- reminds me of Ozzy Osbourne.
- Oswald- I didn't like it when I read it 20 minutes ago, but I kind of like it now. (Partially because I remembered the Pandora Hearts character.)
- Percival- Again, like Clancy, it just has a feminine ring to it.
- Phelan- something sounds wrong, I just can't quite place my finger on it...
- Piers- It reminds me of Dudley's friend. But other than that, I like it.
- Pike- fish. I think it's a real fish, but I can't be sure. In RF4, you can make sashimi with it at cooking lvl 1.
- Placido- I'm pretty sure he was some philosopher or whatnot.Oh, you know what, he's an opera singer my dad really like. (The philosopher part is what I originally thought, but I make so many typos, I really hate using the backspace for anything other than typos...)
- Romulus- I think he's some sort of mythological figure or something, not sure, but it sounds pretty cool.
- Roth- I knew a guy named Patrick Roth. I don't hate him, but he did take my 600 g bakugan in exchange for something or another, throw lead at me (what a waste), hit me with a ruler, pull my hair, and attempt to drown me at the public swimming pool. It was just friendly stuff, but still.
- Rufus- sounds like doofus. I don't think that's a curse. I know there might be some people out there who disagree
- Socrates- Placido was an opera singer, but Socrates is most definitely a philosopher. I think it just puts too much pressure on the kid. He probably thinks you want him to be a genius.
- Tobiah- Sounds like a combination of Tobias and Uriah. I liked both of them, but I think the combination is kind of weird.Better than Urbias.
- Vaughn- I think it sounds too Wild Western-y.
- Waldo- I can't stop thinking of Where's Waldo.
- Washington- too official
- Zebulon- Is this after Zebulon Pike? What do you know; Pike. If you don't know who Zebulon Pike is, he was some kind of explorer. I had to do a research project on him in... 4th grade? But the books my teacher gave us didn't have any info on him and I got to switch. But the name's pretty cool.
This turned out to be pretty long. After writing all this, i realize my reasons for liking and disliking names is pretty biased. Basically, if I like characters I know with same name, I like the name. If not, i don't really like the name. Except for Kit. I think part of the reason I like Kit from Petra Kronos is because his name is Kit. I want to say more, but I can't spoil it for those who haven't read them yet.
All in all, my favorite name is Kit, hands down.
My least favorite name would be... I guess Placido. Whereas my dad and I aren't really close, I neither hate him or Placido. I do however, hate his singing. I really do.
2 main points
1. Don't name your kid Placido. I automatically hate him. Not really, but no need to sweat the details.
2. Read the Petra Kronos books. In fact, I think I'm going to reread them.
Good night!
